Shirts Are Here!!!! Shirts Are Here!!!! Shirts Are Here!!!! Shirts Are Here!!!!
All shirt orders placed by the June 26th deadline are here and ready for pick up in the office. It will be very helpful to get as many as possible distributed before Open House. Come see us next week to get your order and supply lists.
We have a supply of the sleeveless ladies shirts, sweatshirts, and school spirit shirts that are also for sale. Ask about these when you come in.
Lots of activity is taking place on campus. New classrooms have been moved in and the set up and construction of decks and walkways is underway. As always, extra hands are needed.
See you soon!
June 28, 2005
The office will be closed until July 12 when our office staff will return from summer break. We are busily planning for next year. Tonight, we meet with Southwest Georgia Technical College to discuss our students enrollment in a program called ACCEl. This program allows students to take college level courses that will also satisfy their high school graduation requirements. Entrance testing will determine eligibility. Once this testing is done, we can make decisions as to how this program will work on our campus.
The Lady Blazer Softball team has been busy planning for a great fall season. The girls met last week and traveled to Thomasville to meet with Julia Mckenzie's mother, a talented artist. She assisted the girls in designing a really fun set of china. The Lady Blazers will raffle the china to help offset some of the cost of their ball tournaments and season expenses. Please support these ladies when they ask you to buy a ticket. These young ladies have also been busy at the Wildcat Games in Albany. The families of the girls were given the opportunity to work the concession stands as a means to help offset the cost of their upcoming softball camp in Tifton. This has been a great success, a lot of work but also a lot of fun. They will represent our school with pride during the upcoming season. ( A picture of the china is provided.)
Our Lady Blazer Cheerleaders are also working hard. Mrs. April and her squad recently attended camp and came back fired up and ready for next year. The cheerleaders will be designing and selling our 2005-2006 Spirit Shirts. These shirts will go on sale shortly after the beginning of the year. The profit from these shirts will cover the cost of uniforms and help offset competition expenses. Don't forget, these shirts may be worn of Fridays with jeans. These ladies are a great source of pride for our school and always make us proud.
Open House is scheduled for Thursday, August 4th from 6:00-7:30. Make plans now to drop in and meet your children's teachers and see their classrooms. The teachers will be working hard all that week to get ready for your visit. A table will be set up out front to pick up your children's schedules and class assignment. Maps of the school will be provided for your assistance.

September 28, 2005

With all the Hurricane action that is continuing to take place, I wanted to update you on the procedures we will take as a school to announce school closings. As soon as the decision is made, I will call WALB to post the news on TV, I will then change the answering machine message at the school, and I will change the message on my personal phone. Please be patient with us as we try to get the news out to you as quickly as possible.

What a great way to get involved and to share your school spirit! This is a new idea to help some of our new families feel at home and to feel a part of the BCCS family. We do things differently around here, and sometimes we forget that our new families may need a little extra time and help to find their way. I encourage all of us who have been at BCCS for a while to adopt one of our new families and make them feel welcome. Cheryl Hayley will be contacting you soon about this new program. I hope that each of you will show your support by saying "YES" when she ask you to
"Adopt a Family!"

A little bragging is in order for our last year's Physical Science classes.
The scores for the End-of-Course-Tests are now posted, and listed in the Top Ten High Schools in the state of Georgia for outstanding performance on the Physical Science Exam you will find the name of
"Baconton Community Charter School"
This outstanding group of students performed beautifully on this test, so much so that they were listed as one of the top ten high school classes in the state. Yes, that includes the entire state of Georgia!
A huge thank you goes out to their teacher,

who makes learning an adventure and challenges his students to excel. Evidence of his hard work and dedication has paid off in this impressive honor.
September 20, 2004

I want to share the great news on our Cross Country Team. This weekend they traveled to Lee County to participate in an invitational meet open to schools of all sizes, including 4A and 5A schools. Our Lady Blazers came home with a beautiful trophy, placing Third out of eight schools. They are training hard and their efforts are being rewarded in their weekly performances at the Cross Country events. A special congratulations goes out to Mason Mims who placed 7th overall all in the men's run out 98 runners. He recorded a time of 3 miles in 18:36!!!! Our men had a great team effort and are improving with every meet we attend. Two of our Middle School runners also had outstanding scores. Zack Tabb medaled with a Fourth Place finish and Lillian Harvey took a Second Place win for the girls.
Congratulations Blazers!
The
Lady Blazer Softball Team is improving with every game. If you have not
had the chance to watch a game, then you are missing out on a lot of fun.
Our schedule for the week includes a JV game today with Miller County at 4:00, a
varsity game tomorrow against Clinch, (away) at 4:30, a JV game against Turner
County at home on Thursday at 4:30, and a Varsity game against Mitchell Baker at
home on Saturday at 10:30. They need your support, so come out and share
your Blazer Spirit!

Our Fitness Club is continuing to meet after school each week with Mr. Jim Knuth. He is working on health and fitness, wrestling, and weight lifting skills. If your student is interested, call the school and we will get you the information. Thanks to Mr. Jim for volunteering his time to help with our students.

No Buses on Friday,
September 24th
due to Mitchell Baker High School Homecoming Parade and Celebrations!

There has been a small change in the Volunteer Policy this year. In an effort to accommodate parents' work schedules and busy seasons, and in an effort to minimize the amount of hours spent on record keeping, recording times for the hours will be done by the semester instead of by the nine weeks. Each semester has two nine week grading periods in which each family volunteers five or ten hours. The new policy states that each family will complete their ten or twenty hours each semester. It is the same amount of hours, we are just recording them over a semester. There are lots of opportunities to volunteer. Call us if you have not yet found a way to join in at the school.

Don't miss the chance to have your name listed as a Blazer Fan on the back of our new Spirit Shirts. Each family received a letter offering the opportunity to have your family or students' names listed on the back of our new shirts. The shirts last year were such a hit and we know that this year's design is going to look great. All names should be in by the end of this week. We will accept a post-dated check if necessary, but payment for the names must accompany the order.
Thanks to our Varsity Cheerleaders for handling the design and orders of the shirts!
August 12, 2004

Our new charter has been approved by the Mitchell County School Board!!! Thanks to all families who helped to make this happen. The vote was unanimous. Please thank these Board members for their support and faith in our school. We still have work to do as we will now submit to the State Board of Education. Their final approval will ensure us a new five year charter.
Our Volunteer Coordinators have a Saturday Work Day scheduled for this weekend. We need to move some lockers in for our Middle and High School students. We will definitely need some strong backs. We also need to freshen up with lawn mowing and trimming. Please bring your tools and equipment. Your children's teachers will also have individual lists for you. Please come!

The Blazer Spirit is Firing Up for a New Year!

Join us for our Open House on Thursday, August 5 from 5:30-7:30. So much is happening on our campus. The classrooms all have a fresh new look, and the grounds are really looking better. Thank you to all who joined in on our work days to put a shine on the school. At Open House, be sure to check in at one of the two information tents. This is where you will receive the homeroom assignments, school calendars, and maps. You will also find a cool drink to help with the heat as you walk around the school. Homeroom teachers will have important papers for you to complete. The school lunch forms are the most critical. Every family in the school must complete this form. Funding for our federal and state grants and reimbursements will be based on the percentages gathered from these forms. Please take the time to complete these forms.
We have some wonderful new faces on our campus this year. In the middle and high school we have Mrs. Jacqueline Carter teaching science and chemistry. She is bringing her two children, Jocelyn and Jeronne with her. Working with our sixth graders will be Mrs. Keisha Hagins. She will be teaching science and math and has graciously volunteered to be the Cheerleading coach for the middle school team. We also want to welcome a new teacher in third grade. Mrs. Layne West will be a new member of that team. She did a great job as a student teacher last spring and we were all delighted when she expressed her interest in teaching here this year. Mrs. Jenny Collins has a new assistant teacher. We are so excited to have Mrs. Henrietta Kellam working with her and our Pre-K children. She has been a Baconton community member forever and it is great to have her on our campus. Not new to us, but in a new teaching position will be Mrs. Agnes Merritt. She will be teaching the third section of second grade and will bring a wealth of knowledge and wisdom to our students. We have huffled some of our staff and faculty around to make this giant puzzle come together. I know that you are going to pleased with the final results. A great thank you goes out to each member of this faculty and staff for their flexibility and eagerness to bring the best to all of our children.
March 22, 2004

The Baconton Community Charter School Junior High Academic Team placed 3rd out of 24 teams in the Quiz Bowl Competition which was held on Saturday, March 20. Scoring 1060 points, 10 points away from second place, the team had an outstanding performance. In the words of Mrs. MC Brooks," The BCCS Academic Team "rocked" again!" The team won seven out of eight rounds and made a sound showing among schools such as Pelham and Lee County. We are so proud of each member and the hard work, time, and dedication they give to make this team so great.

The
BCCS Tennis Team had its first official match against Pelham Middle School on
Friday, March 19th . The team had a great showing and came out on top with
the most matches won. Even though it was a middle school match, Pelham's
coach and team allowed our high school players the opportunity to participate in
some of the matches. We really appreciate this! We have two other
matches scheduled so far and are working to schedule more. We are proud of
the determination and improvement this team is showing. We have tremendous
potential. Parents, thanks for allowing us the opportunity to work with
these students.

Join us on March 18 @ 7:00 pm for PTO. Our second graders will be performing their Spanish Skills. Plans for our Spring BBQ and Spring Fling will also be discussed. We need you!

Our students are always encouraged to participate in charitable events. We all feel that the Relay for Life, which raises money for cancer research, is a worthy cause in which to be involved. BCCS students are working hard to raise $1,000 dollars. Many events and activities are taking place. Our sixth graders held a cake walk and a yard sale/car wash. It was fun to see them working together. Mrs. Jean's students are sponsoring an Easter Basket Raffle. For 50 cents a ticket, you have a chance to win a basket full of great surprises. We are also sponsoring three school wide out of uniform days. Theses days will be on Thursdays, March 11, 18, and 26th. This will cost $3.00 for each student wishing to participate. The 7th and 8th graders are sponsoring the March 26th out of uniform day. Tickets must be purchased from one of these students in order to participate. Check with your child's teacher for more information about their homeroom project. More details will come later about how we can serve as a team on the Relay for Life event day.

Hello Parents,
In case you haven't noticed,
the gym is down! What a huge change this has made in our campus.
There is still much debris to be hauled of
f,
so the rear exit to the campus is not available for use. Thank you to the
pto and the bccs board for their efforts in coordinating and funding this
project. Also, a great thanks goes to the Mitchell County Board of
Commissioners for their support in allowing the use of county equipment and
labor. I know that we will all be proud of the new look of our campus.

The end of this
nine week grading period is Friday, March 12. All volunteer hours should
be complete by this date at 6:00 p.m.
A Work Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 6!

All currently enrolled families should have received their in-house enrollment letters which are due back in the office. Follow-up phone calls are being made now to families who have not responded. We want everyone to have their space reserved for next year.
New student registration begins today. Please invite all friends living in the north mitchell attendance zone to come by the office for a registration packet. This phase of registration closes on saturday, march 6 at 12:00 noon.

The time is finally here to begin our spring sports. Junior Varsity Baseball will practice after school with Mr. John Pinson and Mr. Gabe Council.
Track will be meeting with Mr. Glenn Palmer. Mr. Greg Hatcher will also be working with our shot and discus participants. Please see Mr. Glenn if your child is interested in joining the track team.
A "Tennis Clinic" with Mitchell County's Tennis Pro, Mr. David Burkle, will meet on Tuesdays and Saturdays at the Tennis Center in Camilla. All students in Junior High and up are encouraged to attend. The cost is $5.00 per two hour session. If interested, see Mrs. Melissa Carden to sign up. Our competition team is forming now for all students in Junior High and High School. Please see Mrs. Melissa for more information.

School attendance is essential for academic success. Choosing BCCS means choosing a commitment to have your child at school everyday and on time. Letters have just been sent to families who are out of compliance with our attendance policy. Please do not take these letters lightly. Your child's future enrollment is based on your family honoring the BCCS Family Contract. Our school will not meet the state standards if we do not have an overall school attendance rate of 95%. We need each family to be committed to achieving this goal. Please call the office if you have any questions concerning your child's attendance record.

Thanksgiving Holidays begin on Tuesday, November 25th at 11:30 AM.
This is an early dismissal day for BCCS. There will be no lunches or bus service at all on this day. The buses also will not run on Monday.
Please make your plans to have your children picked up by 11:30.

Congratulations to Mrs. Deborah Davis and her family on the birth
of her new baby daughter.
Just a little over 5 pounds, she was born on Wednesday, November 19th.
We have missed Mrs. Deborah at BCCS, and we look forward to having her back at work soon.
