BACONTON COMMUNITY CHARTER SCHOOL
Conduct Code
I. Mission Statement
It is the mission of Baconton Community Charter School (BCCS) to provide a safe, nurturing atmosphere in which to guide a diverse student body in the development of character and academic potential through a rigorous, content-rich hands-on curriculum and on-going character-enrichment that leads to an understanding of virtuous behavior and civic responsibility. High standards of teaching, study, and conduct are central to the mission of BCCS. These are standards that will lead to academic excellence and strong moral fiber. Parental involvement is critical to BCCS's mission.
II. Introduction
At the beginning of and throughout each school year, teachers will discuss proper classroom behavior with their students and will discuss with the students a specific code of rules for each individual classroom. Classroom codes may include, but are not limited to, such items as "Keep your hands and feet to yourself," "Do your own work unless tutoring another student or doing a group assignment," "Do not speak without permission," etc.
The rules in the Conduct and Discipline Code will not infringe upon constitutionally protected rights, will be clearly and specifically described, will be attached to and incorporated into the Parent and Student Contracts, and will be printed in the school handbook which will be made available to parents and students. The school will enforce the provisions of the Code so that students and their parents or guardians understand that unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated and will be dealt with according to the Code.
Proper behavior of students occurs as a result of a mutual cooperation between home and school. Students, parents, teachers, and the Administrator all play a vital role in assuring that the school fosters a sound educational environment that encourages productive learning. This environment must be safe and free from unnecessary disruption in manner and dress. This environment must also foster a positive attitude towards self-discipline and socially acceptable behavior.
This Conduct and Discipline Code is a foundational part of the overall education offered at the school. The staff and faculty of BCCS shall be ever mindful that the rules in this Code and those established in the classroom serve a greater purpose than merely maintaining control; it is through enforcement of the rules that the school seeks to nurture in all students such virtues of character as peaceableness, leadership, compassion, honesty, respect for others, self-control, self-discipline, and cooperation. The staff and faculty of the school understand that the most powerful teaching tool is example and, therefore, the staff and faculty will demonstrate the character traits being taught.
III. Specific Rules and Conduct
Students of BCCS are expected to obey the following rules of conduct. The Governing Board has adopted these rules and the consequences concerning these rules to address most possible behavioral situations for students of all grade levels. Situations not specifically defined will be addressed by the most appropriate category. Students are expected to attend class unless properly excused by the School Administration.
